Club Brugge must pass Fiorentina to reach the Conference League final. For many, the Italians seem to be a feasible option, but former national coach and Italy expert René Vandereycken rebukes those people.

“I rate Fiorentina higher than Club,” he says The newspapaer. “More quality, more experience, more technique. The difference is not big, so in that sense Club is not without a chance, but if I have to assign the role of favorite to one team, it is Fiorentina. Respect is appropriate.”

Fiorentina also put everything on that semi-final. Trainer Italiano put almost his entire reserve team on the field in the league match against Sassuolo. Vandereycken also thinks that ex-Anderlecht striker Christian Kouamé – who usually plays on the left – will not be in the starting line-up.

That would be good news for Kyriani Sabbe. “Sabbe is playing fantastic play-offs, I am extremely impressed with his performance, but he is not a header.”

“If Kouamé becomes Sabbe’s direct opponent against Club and Fiorentina drops balls to the far post, then there is a problem in the aerial duels. Kouamé can be an attractive weapon for Fiorentina.”

Although Vandereycken also sees possibilities. “Fiorentina’s full-backs like to advance. If Skoras and Nusa or Jutglà are present, Club can take advantage of the Italian vulnerability on the flanks. It will be more difficult to find space in the center: Fiorentina are very short on space there.”
