“When I speak, everything explodes”: Salah comes to blows with Klopp over new Liverpool misstep | Foreign Football

--

Jürgen Klopp does not immediately get the dream farewell he dreamed of at Liverpool. While his team suffered another loss of points at West Ham and is now completely out of contention for the title, the German coach also had a hard time with star player Mo Salah. Klopp tried to put out the fire, but Salah’s passage in the mixed zone was telling. “When I speak, everything explodes.”

Striking moment during West Ham-Liverpool. When Klopp wanted to bring on Mo Salah, who started on the bench, in the final quarter, a heated argument broke out between the two on the sidelines. It is not clear what was said, but it was certainly explosive. The German did not want to say after the match what words were said. “But we talked about it in the locker room. That’s done,” he tried to minimize the incident in front of the TNT Sports camera.

Salah clearly thought differently about that. When leaving the stadium he refused to stop in the mixed zone for interviews. “Because when I speak, everything explodes.” For not wanting to say anything, that was still pretty telling.

His last weeks as Liverpool coach – he may be succeeded by the Dutchman Arne Slot – are anything but smooth sailing for Klopp, as it once again became a frustrating afternoon for Liverpool. Jarrod Bowen put the home team 1-0 in the first half. Andrew Robertson equalized at the start of the second half on a pass from Luis Díaz. Gravenberch was dangerous a few times after that. Liverpool took the lead through Tomas Soucek’s own goal after a shot by Cody Gakpo, but Michail Antonio headed West Ham back to level fifteen minutes before the end.

Later there was controversy surrounding a decision by ref Taylor. Goalkeeper Aréola put the ball down to play the ball, allowing Cody Gakpo to apply pressure. The Dutchman was able to score with his fingers in his nose, until the referee whistled him back. It is very unclear why referee Taylor decided to stop the game.

Liverpool tried to score the third goal. Harvey Elliott was close, but his shot hit the crossbar. The score remained 2-2 – yet another loss of points for Liverpool, who seem to be out of contention for the title.

Liverpool have won only one of their last five league games. After the draw, the club is third with 75 points. That is one point less than Manchester City, which has played two games less. Arsenal are in the lead with 77 points.
