Anderlecht are currently in the lead in the Champions’ Play-offs. Will this still be the case at the end of the season?
Anderlecht is currently leader in the Jupiler Pro League. However, all teams are very close to each other, at the top of the standings.
Anderlecht has 38 points, Club Brugge 36, Union 35 and KRC Genk 34. So anything is still possible. Quite surprising, considering the Purple & White and Union were the big favorites a few weeks ago, while Club and Genk were already written off.
Last weekend Anderlecht lost 2-1 against Genk. Not that it was undeserved, Philippe Albert also saw that. “It is not the level of a team that is in the lead,” he said, according to RTBF at La Tribune.
Nordin Jbari is also not impressed by purple and white. “Second or third, they don’t become champions. In any case, I don’t see them becoming that.” To which Albert warns: “If they get six out of six against Cercle, be careful.”
The club now has to do without Thorgan Hazard for a long time. Albert thinks he is missed. “I have heard that people have doubts about Hazard. Against Genk you have to know how to control the ball in such a match, and we clearly saw that he was not there.”
