A 27-year-old man from Leuven died on Thursday morning after an accident on the E314 Leuven-Lummen. The Leuven public prosecutor’s office confirmed this to our editors.

The Leuven police were informed on Thursday morning around 7.40 am of an accident on the E314 near the Leuven exit. A 27-year-old Leuven resident deviated from the left lane for a currently unknown reason, but then ended up against the guardrail of the central reservation and from there was catapulted to the right lane. The emergency services arrived on the scene, but no further assistance could be provided to the driver. He was instant dead.

The Leuven public prosecutor’s office appointed a traffic expert to investigate the exact cause of the accident. Initial findings indicated that no other vehicle was involved in the accident. “There were no witnesses to the accident, but for the time being there is nothing to indicate that the man was driving too fast,” said public prosecutor Sarah Callewaert.

Due to the accident, only one lane was available on the E314 for a while on Thursday morning.
