A 17-year-old girl was raped in the Astrid Park on Friday night. Three suspects were arrested on the spot, the council chamber has already decided that the men will remain arrested. The West Flanders public prosecutor’s office confirmed this to our editors.
The victim walked through the Astridpark in Kortrijk with her boyfriend on Friday evening shortly after midnight. Three young men pulled the girl into the bushes, where they forced her to perform oral sex on them.
The girl’s boyfriend was unable to intervene, but did call the police. Several patrols then arrived on the scene and were able to arrest three suspects on site. This concerns one 18-year-old and two 26-year-olds. They deny that it was rape, according to them everything happened with mutual consent.
However, an investigating judge was of the opinion that there were sufficient indications to arrest the three. The trio also appeared before the council chamber on Tuesday, where that decision was confirmed and their detention was extended by a month.

The West Flanders public prosecutor’s office is also conducting an investigation into another gang rape in Kortrijk. A 14-year-old girl was abused by a dozen young suspects – some barely between 12 and 16 years old.
