LtdFive years ago, radio presenter Christophe Lambrecht died of heart failure. On Radio 1, his wife Anda Ackx talks about the great loss of her partner and the father of her children. “It never occurred to me that a voice would be one of the first things to disappear from a child’s memories.”

On May 5, 2019, radio presenter of Studio Brussels, Christophe Lambrecht, died of heart failure. His voice sounded in Flemish living rooms for years and evokes warm memories for many Flemish people. But his son, Maurice, was only five years old when he lost his dad and is finding it increasingly difficult to recognize the voice. “I was shocked by that,” says Anda Ackx. “The very thing with which everyone associates Christophe, which characterizes him, was the first to disappear in Maurice’s memory,” his wife then explains on Radio 1.

“Emotional when I hear his voice”

“We can therefore say that we are very fortunate that so much has been documented about his voice,” says Anda. “Our son can listen to it later. I never thought it would be one of the first things to disappear in a child’s memory.” The loss of his dad is still very great. “The pain is mainly that he is no longer there as a dad, while he is a young man who still has to grow up.”

Anda also has a hard time when she hears his voice somewhere unannounced. “If I know it’s coming, it’s okay. But if I suddenly heard his voice on a radio program, I would be very shocked. I hear that from friends too. That voice is so recognizable, and it becomes very emotional.”
