Club Brugge can qualify for a European final for the third time in history on Wednesday evening (6:45 p.m.). If blue-black defeats Italian Fiorentina at home, a ticket will be ready for the final battle of the Conference League on May 29 in Athens. To put some pressure on the Italians, some Club fans went to the Van der Valk hotel in Oostkamp, where the Fiorentina selection was staying overnight, to set off fireworks.

Nicky Hayen’s team has to suffer a 3-2 defeat in the first leg in Jan Breydel. If that works, a final against Aston Villa or Olympiacos awaits in three weeks. The Greeks have the best cards in qualifying after a 2-4 win in Birmingham. Club has to earn a place in the final without suspended midfielder Raphael Onyedika and left back Bjorn Meijer, who will be out for the rest of the season with knee problems.

The second leg between Club and Fiorentina has been brought forward by one day due to the Procession of the Holy Blood that will take place in Bruges on Thursday. Olympiacos and Aston Villa will know who the opponent in the final will be before the kick-off of their match in Piraeus.

Club Brugge already played two European finals in the 1970s. Liverpool was the opponent each time and in both matches the English came out on top. This was the case in 1976 in the final of the UEFA Cup (3-2 and 1-1) and two years later in the final of the European Cup I (1-0).
