The body of a 32-year-old tourist from our country has been found in Canada. The Walloon media ‘Sudinfo’ and ‘RTL Info’ reported this. The woman went missing on March 17 while swimming in a river surrounded by fjords, mountains and forests. “Friends heard her screams for help and saw her being swept away by the water.”

According to Walloon media, 32-year-old Whitney Orville was born in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, but has lived in our country since she was four. The woman trained as an artist, after which she moved first to Liège and then to Brussels.

About a month ago, she was on vacation in Canada near the town of Squamish, nestled among the rugged mountains, green forests and blue-green waters of the Howe Sound fjord. On March 17, the emergency services received a call for a swimmer in distress around 4 p.m.

“A woman had gone swimming in the Mamquam River, just east of the Powerhouse Bridge,” emergency services said at the time. “Moments later, her friends heard her screaming for help and saw her being swept away by the water.

Cloudy water

Rescue teams then combed the area for 24 hours using drones, kayaks, a helicopter and sniffer dogs. The search took place in difficult terrain that is densely vegetated, has wild currents and is surrounded by steep cliffs and deep ravines. After 24 hours the search was stopped. “The terrain is complex,” says an aid worker. “There are extremely narrow choke points in the river, lots of rocks and cloudy water.”

According to ‘Sudinfo’ and ‘RTL Info’ the artist has been found dead. You can view her work here.
