Koksijde

A heavy bomb weighing 100 kilograms was detonated on the beach of Sint-André in Koksijde on Thursday morning by the DOVO bomb disposal service. Since the annual beach clean-up has started, several bombs have already been detonated on the beach.

Last month, heavy bombs were blown up by DOVO for three days in a row. The annual beach clean-up is underway on the beach by the Braet company from Nieuwpoort, on behalf of the Maritime and Coastal Services Agency (MDK). A specific search is also made for explosives. The position also saw heavy fighting during the Second World War and was home to the German Atlantic Wall, a heavy defense line with numerous bunkers.

A similar 100-kilogram aircraft bomb was detonated last month. This time the equipment was dug up on the beach of Sint-André and was brought to the waterline on Thursday morning. It was partly buried and detonated at 10 am. The loud bang could be heard far away.
