Surprise at half time. Kasper Schmeichel suddenly appeared on the field in full training gear and Colin Coosemans started to warm up. The goalkeeper was thus allowed to make his official debut for the Purple & White.
Coosemans transferred to Anderlecht in the summer of 2021, but only played in practice matches. In recent years he has always doubled for Hendrik Van Crombrugge, Bart Verbruggen and now Kasper Schmeichel. Of course not the first competitors.
Emotions at Coosemans
“I am very happy with my substitution,” Coosemans responded to Eleven/DAZN. “Not that much was going through my mind or anything. I just expected a little more nerves, but there weren’t really any.”
“It’s incredible, because it’s been quite a long time since I last played. It’s also the first time for Anderlecht, a debut that I had already imagined a few times. I think the emotions will soon be possible.”
He is very important in the shadows, but of course every professional also wants to play. “These have sometimes been difficult moments… But it is nice to finally be able to make my debut.”
Also in target on Sunday?
Brian Riemer also supported him. “I’m very happy for Colin that he was finally able to play 45 minutes. “He waited more than 1,000 days for this day. And yet he comes to training every day with a smile.”
“And this summer everything is open. Nobody gets guarantees to play. Why Mads (Kikkenborg) didn’t play? Because Colin is currently our second best goalkeeper.”
Coosemans may be in goal again on Sunday, because Schmeichel had groin problems. And they’re not going to take any chances with him. “We don’t know anything yet, that will be tomorrow,” said Riemer.
