Concerns about Queen Silvia’s bloodshot eye: Swedish royal family explains what’s wrong | Royalty

--

RoyaltyQueen Silvia (80) of Sweden has shocked the press and royalty fans. During Finland’s incoming state visit, the queen was photographed with a bloodshot eye. Various photos in Swedish media show that almost her entire left eye is blood red.

On Tuesday, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia received the Finnish presidential couple, Alexander Stubb and Suzanne Innes-Stubb, at the Royal Palace for a state visit. But it is mainly the queen’s bloodshot eye that attracted attention. There had been some concern about the photos among royalty fans on social media. The Swedish press even spoke of “terrifying images”.

But according to the Swedish palace spokesman, the situation seems worse than it is. “The queen was exposed to a cold draft in the eyes,” palace spokeswoman Margareta Thorgren told the Swedish newspaper ‘Expressen’. “That cold draft can mainly occur during the colder months, when the temperature difference between outside and inside is large.”

The palace spokeswoman also wants to emphasize that there is no reason to worry: “For the rest, Queen Silvia is doing well,” she said in the Swedish newspaper.
