In the north of Germany, the search is on for a boy who has been missing since Monday evening. Arian Arnold (6) has an autism spectrum disorder, which makes the search considerably more difficult.

Arian lives with his parents in the city of Bremervörde. On Monday evening at 7.30 pm he was playing at home when he suddenly disappeared. His parents couldn’t find him anywhere and called the emergency services after three minutes. They immediately took action and deployed significant resources.

More than 400 rescue workers with sniffer dogs combed the Elm neighborhood, where the family has lived for two years. Searches were conducted in adjacent gardens, ponds and nearby oilseed rape fields. Later, the search area was expanded to include surrounding fields, meadows and forests.

Drone

The emergency services also use a drone and a boat with sonar to search the nearby Oste River. A fresh footprint was found this afternoon in the swampland along that river, but it is not yet clear whether it belongs to the boy.

According to the police, the search is made more difficult because the boy has a disability. “He is autistic, does not speak and does not respond when spoken to,” said a statement.

Time is running out, because it is very cold where the boy lives and that is a problem if he were outside. During the day it is 8 degrees and at night it cools down further to a temperature around freezing point.

At the time of his disappearance, Arian was wearing only an orange sweater, black sweatpants with a dragon pattern and socks. He wasn’t wearing any shoes. According to the police, it is not yet clear how exactly the boy got away from his parental home.
