Antonio Tiberi was one of the disappointments in the second stage of the Giro d’Italia. The Italian from Bahrain Victorious has the ambition to ride in the top five this round, but lost a lot of time on the final climb to Oropa. However, that had everything to do with material failure, he says on Bahrain Victorious’ social media.

“I had a lot of bad luck,” Tiberi reflects. “I was in a good position when the final climb started to get steeper and the pace increased. But I had a flat tire and then another mechanical problem with my new bike. I did my best to come back and limit the loss, but this was impossible. I lost some time.”

Ultimately, Tiberi crossed the line in 34th place, two minutes and 24 seconds behind Tadej Pogacar. He is now 26e in the general classification. The provisional number five, Einer Rubio, is just under two minutes ahead of him.
