A large fire broke out in Wetteren in East Flanders on Monday morning at a former horticultural company near the industrial park in Laarnestraat. The greenhouses and shed were completely burnt out, the adjacent house could be saved.
The fire brigade and emergency services are on the scene en masse. The fire was quickly brought under control, but there was a lot of smoke that could be seen for miles.
The company was no longer active, the greenhouses served as a storage place for several dozen mobile homes, caravans and old-timers. The four greenhouses were completely destroyed by the fire. Several explosions were also heard, caused by the stored vehicles. All the vehicles were lost in the fire.
There were no injuries. Local residents were asked to keep windows and doors closed and to switch off the ventilation.
