A 41-year-old man from Hertsberge has to answer to the Bruges criminal court for attempted manslaughter, threats and malicious obstruction of road traffic. The defendant drove, among other things, a car stuck on the E40 in Loppem. At the introductory session, Kenneth B. apologized, but that did not go down well with the victims present.

The facts took place on August 26, 2021 on the E40 towards the coast. A couple from Kortenaken was on their way to their second residence in Nieuwpoort, when they encountered a tailgater near Beernem. The Mercedes in question continued to follow them and tried to drive them off the road four times.

Eventually they were jammed near Loppem, after which the road pirate even approached them with an iron bar. At that point, the victims were still able to escape. Just before that incident, B. had even rammed the car of a couple from Kontich near Drongen. The deliberate collision was classified as attempted manslaughter by the prosecution.

Apologies

The case was brought before the Bruges criminal court on Tuesday morning. B. addressed the couple present from Kortenaken and apologized. However, he was read to the Levites by the bourgeois party. “It’s been over a year, but we haven’t heard from you yet. I can’t tolerate this, really. Luckily I’m a driving instructor and I’ve been able to dodge eight times. Or there would have been deaths,” the man responded.

In the coming months, the lawyers and the public prosecutor will put their positions on paper. Meanwhile, the defense will also try to reach a settlement with the civil parties. The victims of the attempted murder have already been compensated. The case will be heard on February 14 at 10:30 a.m.
