El Kaouakibi has not been seen in the Flemish Parliament for almost two years. The politician sat there for Open Vld until she left the party herself in April last year after scandals related to subsidy fraud. She kept her parliamentary seat, but she was legally absent all this time with sick notes and so she was also paid.
But the 3,000 euros net that she still received has not been deposited for four months because the tax authorities had her wages garnished. There it will be decided whether El Kaouakibi will have to answer to the judge. Before that is possible, however, her parliamentary immunity must first be lifted. This must be judged by a committee in the Flemish Parliament.
