Beerschot hires striker Nauris Petkevicius from Charleroi for one season. The 22-year-old Lithuanian is A-international for his country and moved to Charleroi . in January 2022
Petkevicius started his career with Stumbras in his own country. In 2017 he moved to Lille in France. After another one season stopover in Lithuania, where he scored 16 goals in 33 games, he left for Charleroi in January.
“I am very happy to be able to sign with Beerschot”, says the new center striker. “I really wanted to come here. It’s a big club, it’s in Belgium and was really impressed with the crowd the last time I was here. I was on the bench when we came here to play with Charleroi last season. The sound that came from the stands at a goal was unbelievable. I get goosebumps when I think about it.”
“Let’s hope I can start cheering like that too,” the Lithuanian winks. “I can relate to the attacking football that the coach stands for. Putting the team above the individual is, in my opinion, how football should be played. So the message is to work hard in the coming weeks to show that I deserve a place here and to prove myself.”
“Nauris fits perfectly into our system,” says technical coordinator Gyorgy Csepregi. “He is a hard-working player with a lot of running ability. Someone who likes to push forward and works for the team. He also fits in with our vision of attracting young talented players. In Nauris’ case, this is also accompanied by experience at Lille and Hegelman (Lithuania) where he played 46 matches in recent seasons.”
