Jian G. has worked for Krah, the leader of the right-wing radical Alternative for Germany (AfD) in next month’s European elections, since 2019. G. was arrested in Germany in mid-April on suspicion of spying for China. Krah has now distanced himself from G..

The European Parliament says it is cooperating with the authorities. It therefore gave permission to search the office.

Krah also confirmed on X that the “office of his former employee” had been searched. “That was foreseeable after his arrest and is therefore not surprising at all,” Krah said in a response. “Neither I nor any other staff member is involved.”

Witness

According to the German Federal Prosecutor’s Office, Krah’s office was searched because he is a witness in the case. He himself is not accused. Krah’s documents are protected by his immunity as an MP.

The Belgian federal public prosecutor’s office confirms that a search was carried out at the request of the Germans. They refer to the German public prosecutor’s office for further information. G.’s home in Brussels had already been searched.
