Last Sunday, the police in the Vlas zone arrested a 46-year-old man who had already been to a café or restaurant in Kortrijk several times in a short period of time without paying. He always comes up with a reason why he can’t pay. He promises to return with his bank card and leaves a piece of clothing or a card, but then stays away. It was a café owner who recognized him on another terrace on Sunday and informed the police. He was also arrested on Wednesday, May 1, after defrauding a number of catering establishments. But the police had to let him go every time, because the amounts involved were only small.

In the meantime, the man is said to have already struck at least 10 cafes and restaurants in Kortrijk. Reason enough for the police to draw up a file against him. “We already have 3 police reports against the man,” says Thomas Detavernier of the Vlas police zone. “And we also ask other possible victims to report it. With all that information, we want to go to court in the hope that that man will be prosecuted. We want to prevent him from making any more victims in the first place, but apparently he He also has problems and we hope he gets help.”
