Recently, some amounts came to light that parliamentarians who quit will receive. Patrick Dewael takes the cake with 507,024 euros, Servais Verherstraeten receives 401,394 euros and Maggie DeBlock 316,890 euros. And there are even more names and amounts.

PVDA announced those figures and proposed abolishing the withdrawal payments of parliamentarians. But it didn’t come to that. The House Bureau rejected the far-left party’s proposal on Tuesday.

“Anything to maintain one’s own privileges, it is a shame,” PVDA faction leader Sofie Merckx responds. “This was the last chance this legislature to tackle this political privilege. Despite all the promises and statements, it remained just sweet talk. Zero political innovation at Vivaldi or the N-VA.”

“Show their true faces”

“Vlaams Belang also showed its true colors again. They simply left the room before our proposal was discussed. When it comes to their own portfolio, they never give up. Own grabbers first, that is Vlaams Belang.”

Merckx also indicates that the PVDA representatives will not take their compensation.
