A lot of beautiful people came this week to U Eat & Sleep on Het Eilandje in Antwerp, a restaurant and boutique hotel by Collete Van Remortel and Hans Otten. There is a new chef with Reda Hamite and the concept ‘U Discover’ was presented.

The BVs at the performance could not be counted on one hand: Pascale Naessens, Paul Jambers, Véronique De Kock, Lesley-Anne Poppe, Wout Bru, Wouter Torfs, and so on. They were there at the invitation of Collete Van Remortel and Hans Otten, who presented a culinary and cultural discovery tour: U Discover.

“The experience could be taken a step further. I have embraced ‘t Eilandje for the past ten years and I think this area deserves to be put in the spotlight. Its rich history has many unknown or untold stories. There is not only the MAS, but also Felix Pakhuis, Napoleondok, Havenhuis and Red Star Line, among others,” says co-manager and media figure Hans Otten.

With the historic building of U Eat & Sleep as the central point, a discovery tour has been mapped out by master storyteller and guide Tanguy Ottomer. “You can book him as a guide yourself or visit the route on your own. We also offer experiences such as aperitifs on the water or sailing next to the colossal container ships. We work together with a varied range of partners. Visitors enjoy a nice discount and can add accents for a large or small experience,” says Otten.

There is also a new chef on board: Reda Hamite. He already worked at Nuance, among others. “His style is a bit like our vision. And by extension even like Het Eilandje. He starts from a lavish French kitchen and does his own unique thing with it. In this way he creates pure gems that bring together regional elements and worldly touches. The story just makes sense,” says Hans Otten. The menu includes combinations such as sea bass with pea or lamb with carrot, wild garlic and pommes fondant. (determine)
