Limburg.net tackles kitchen waste

Limburg.net is launching the annual awareness campaign for the eighth timeWaste Free May‘. This year the focus is on it avoiding kitchen waste. An average Flemish family contributes annually 369 euros worth of food away. That is why the campaign wants to encourage people to prevent kitchen waste by purchasing smarter, storing food properly and processing food waste themselves. This not only results in less waste, but also in significant savings. The campaign images in the style of traditional supermarket advertisements make this clear at a glance. The campaign is being conducted in various ways: a bus shelter converted into a kitchen full of tips at the station in Hasselt, the program ‘Red de Leftjes on TVL’ for a month, in each episode two people compete against each other in a cooking challenge, a special edition of the free magazine De Zondag and in the Schoonste Magazine that was already in the mailbox, in which Xavier Taveirne shares his personal tips for dealing better with food. During the month of May, Limburg.net’s social media channels will show videos where food experts come to people’s homes to give advice and practical tips tailored to that family. Anyone who is interested can arrange for such an expert to visit them for free from the autumn. During the month of May, there are also workshops in many municipalities where participants can learn techniques to learn how to cook with leftovers or store food safely.
