The Antwerp police seized seven cars on Saturday in a new Varuna action. Owners with outstanding debts are required to pay immediately. Those who cannot pay will have their car seized. The joint outstanding debt amounted to 168,750 euros.

The Plukteam of the local police, the traffic police and customs organized another Varuna action last Saturday. “Owners of vehicles who have outstanding debts from fines and confiscations are required to pay their outstanding debt immediately,” explains police spokesperson Kim Bastiaens. “If the outstanding amount cannot be paid, the car will be seized and possibly sold.”

Three people immediately paid their outstanding debt and were allowed to keep their vehicle. The highest paid debt was 7,149 euros. “Seven people were unable to pay their debts immediately. Their vehicles were towed,” says Bastiaens.

The joint outstanding debt amounted to 168,750 euros. The owner of an Audi Q7 had to have his car towed. He had an outstanding debt of 87,000 euros due to outstanding debts owed by the Belgian State.
