Board of Directors expresses support for CEO and executive board

“The VRT board of directors takes all recent questions and comments about the public broadcaster to heart,” it said in a response. “The directors express their confidence in the internally initiated processes and express their support for the managing director, the executive board and all employees who work every day to lead VRT through a difficult transition period to a future-oriented media company. The council calls on the agreed administrative rules at all times.”

“The Board of Directors, composed of 8 deputies from the political groups and 4 independent directors, takes its mission very seriously and fully exercises its control function.”

“In the interests of the company and in all discretion, as provided for in the corporate governance charter, management has provided additional information to the board in recent months on important topics such as the procedures regarding well-being, leadership processes, decision flows within VRT, the co-financing programs by public and private partners,…”

“The directors will continue to monitor this closely in the future. The council expresses its confidence in how the broadcaster has responded to the various files that recently received public attention.”

“The board of directors of VRT is concerned about how the political independence of the broadcaster is being handled. To safeguard the proper functioning and independence of the public broadcaster, it is of the utmost importance that all parties adhere to the agreements made in the Media Decree and the Management Agreement. The council exercises control over management, while parliament controls the minister of media. The council explicitly assumes its role in this division of tasks.”
