In the co-working space The Attic, in the courtyard of Grotehondstraat 44, people take part in the Pink March every year. In the month of May, participants try to take about 10,000 steps and raise as much money as possible for Think Pink. This money goes entirely to breast cancer research.

Caroline (35) has been taking the lead for three years in motivating her colleagues to work towards this together. “I know many people who have already lost loved ones to breast cancer. Even more awareness is needed: many women think that you are not at risk until your fifties. But I know many young women who have already battled it or carry the gene.”

Caroline joined forces with Lies (38) and Daan (30), the founders of The Attic, and Rebecca (28) and Katelijn (38).

“Last year we were in the top five sponsors for the Pink March and I am very competitive so this year I wanted to win,” says Lies. The event manager in her was awakened. “What is fun and what do people want to spend money on? A party.”

The desks will be pushed aside and DJs will play records on the roof terrace during TittyBounce on Friday, May 24. “After a month of 10,000 steps, those legs will have warmed up. And what is 10,000 steps on the dance floor? Nothing!”

A funky name doesn’t just work to attract people. “It is also a way to break the taboo,” says Caroline. “Programs like Everything in battle show that it is still difficult to talk about it. And many women have no idea how to even check their breasts.”

Sponsors

The dancers sponsor Think Pink with a ticket of fifteen euros. “We also sell support cards worth five euros for people who cannot attend. There are only eighty tickets in total and now there are about ten left, so the key is to be quick.”

Every hour from 6 p.m. to midnight a friendly DJ will play for an hour. “We sent the question around and everyone immediately wanted to play for charity.”

The technical installation has already made a contribution and they are also trying to raise money for charity from the brewers. They already have the location: their co-working space.

Pink Mars

To participate in the Pink March yourself, you pay twelve euros. The money you collect will then be listed under your name. “Our account is the Breast Friends. You then see yourself in a ranking and for some people that can be overwhelming. But I think it’s motivating. Oh, that person above me only takes 200 more steps a day. Then I step up my game.”

The co-working space is really a community. “We also often go for a walk in the afternoon to get our steps in. The members who do not necessarily participate in TittyBounce often come along on the afternoon walk. And many members will also come to tap voluntarily,” says Caroline. “I always try to give some tips, such as taking the stairs and walking around while you are on the phone.”

The walkers can be sponsored via this link.
