Major tribute concert in Lotto Arena for Luc De Vos with only women in the line-up: “He would think this was a fantastic idea”

Ten years after his death, Gorky singer Luc De Vos will receive a grand and musical tribute in the Lotto Arena. On the line-up: only women.

‘Stars come, stars go, only Fox remains’. It is the slogan – sometimes it shouldn’t be more ingenious – with which Lotto Arena announces VOS, a musical tribute to Luc De Vos. Almost ten years ago, the Flemish music scene went into mourning after his unexpected death, and on December 5 the same scene paid tribute to the Gorky frontman. On the poster: only women. An idea from Noelle Vanhelsuwé, his manager at the time. “If I could ask him now: Vos, are we going to let only women sing? wa pissed? He would say: fantastic, do it!”

A sentence

In consultation with relatives and friends of Luc De Vos, the plan arose to create an all-female line-up. Why? “You shouldn’t look too much into it,” says Vanhelsuwé. “It is not from a deeper meaning, rather a witty twist in our heads. I started listing artists and started with the women because I wanted to know how women would interpret Gorky’s songs and lyrics. Ladies first, so to speak. But the list of fantastic singers and front women was so long and the response so positive that we no longer needed men. (laughs)”

Which ladies will be allowed to compete in the Lotto Arena at the end of this year is still a secret. “We can already tell that there are about twenty artists,” says organizer PSE Belgium. Vanhelsuwé wants to reveal a little more. “The line-up will definitely be eclectic. It ranges from very young groups and established values ​​to some icons.” The ladies in question are given free rein, except for one rule. “We asked everyone to sing in their own mother tongue. In most cases this will be in Dutch, but there are a number of surprises.”

Natural person

Ticket sales for VOS start on April 30, but a first presale will start tomorrow/Friday via Natuurpunt. Members of the organization can already score a ticket and also make a donation. “Luc was a person of extremes in everything. He was a real city person but at the same time a real nature lover.” At the time, the funeral card also contained the message: neither flowers nor wreaths, but a gift to nature. “He has always supported Natuurpunt, which is why we are now working together.”
