The most recent capacity monitor predicts a new peak in student numbers by the 2027-2028 school year. Schools could therefore submit a project proposal until the end of February. Flanders is therefore investing in 5,000 additional places, of which around 600 in our region. For example, VKO Opwijk will receive almost 3 million euros for 168 new places, the Sint-Martinuscollege in Overijse will receive more than 1.5 million euros for 144 places. The other schools that receive money are the GTI and Virgo Sapiens in Londerzeel, Klavertje Vier in Vilvoorde and the GO! Atheneum Vijverbeek Asse.

“We want the extra supply to be ahead of demand, especially in regions like my own Flemish Brabant, where demand is very predictable,” says Flemish Minister of Education Ben Weyts. “Only if we invest in time now will we be ready for the additional students by 2027. In this way, we also ensure that our technical and vocational education can continue to grow: after years of decline, we are finally seeing rising enrollment figures again and we must not jeopardize that evolution.”
