During an extensive police check in collaboration with customs, the police in South Limburg intercepted a motorist on Wednesday who had outstanding fines totaling no less than 6,238,607 euros. The man involved was unable to pay the amount, so the police seized his vehicle. This is reported by the local police zone Limburg Capital Region.
The checks took place on the N80 in Hasselt towards Sint-Truiden, and then in Alken towards Hasselt. In addition to the LRH police, the Sint-Truiden-Gingelom-Nieuwerkerken police zone, the Kanton Borgloon police zone, and the Limburg road police also participated.
In addition to the man with the outstanding sample fine, the officials of Customs and Excise and the Flemish tax authorities collected an amount of more than 18,000 euros for driving red diesel, uninspected and unregistered vehicles, and fines. Seven cars were towed.
Thirteen people were driving under the influence of drugs. Their driver’s license was immediately revoked. Three people did not have a valid driver’s license. One was given a lifelong driving ban. Furthermore, three drivers were caught using mobile phones behind the wheel.
