Belgian national coach Domenico Tedesco will be allowed to take 26 Red Devils to the European Football Championship from June 14 to July 14 in Germany. The national competition committee of the European football association UEFA has followed the protest of a number of national coaches against a return to squads of 23 players. The UEFA Executive Committee has yet to confirm the decision of the national competition committee, but that is said to be a formality.

UEFA’s national competition committee has approved the proposal to expand the European Championship squads from 23 to 26 players. The Executive Committee is expected to finally ratify that decision later this week.

For the 2020 European Championship, the number of players was expanded from 23 to 26 due to the corona pandemic. That number was also maintained during the Football World Cup in Qatar because the tournament was played in the middle of the season.

But for the European Championship next summer, UEFA wanted to return to squads of 23 players, until a number of coaches, led by Dutch national coach Ronald Koeman, collectively protested against this.

UEFA is now responding to that protest.
