Marc Brys has moved to Crete with his Greek wife and son. There he is looking for land to build on: “We will never return to Belgium,” he says in GvA. That does not stop him from following the Belgian competition.

He was happy for OH Leuven that they avoided the relegation battle, but as an Antwerp resident he is of course also looking at Beerschot, where he also worked. And they surprise him. “I’m wide-eyed. They have already shown phenomenal things this season with very limited resources,” says Brys in GvA.

“No one would have expected them to be at the top four match days before the end of the competition. But yet they are there. That is simply great. Excellent work has been done both on and off the field in recent months.”

Beerschot longs to leave the purgatory of second again. “The club has put together a core of boys who are hungry. Players with a scratch, who want to show the rest of the world that they should not be written off. Dirk Kuyt also fit that profile as a trainer. And that combination works wonderfully.” .”

Beerschot is still the club of his heart. “I am not objective when I talk about Beerschot. Everyone knows that is my club. I therefore hope from the bottom of my heart that they can finish it.”

“It would be much nicer for football-loving Belgium if Beerschot played in the first division again, wouldn’t it? Their supporters always provide a lot of atmosphere, both home and away. There are clubs in 1A that have to make do with much less. Beerschot absolutely deserves to to play in the first division again.”
