The Charleroi council chamber confirmed on Wednesday the arrest of two men who were arrested in a gang formation case that led to the fatal shooting in Lodelinsart. The public prosecutor’s office confirms this. A special forces officer was killed in the shooting. An officer from the local police has also been charged in the case.

The shooting took place last Monday. Officers raided a home, which immediately led to a firefight. A suspect opened fire on the special units of the federal police from behind a door. A 36-year-old police officer was killed – as was the gunman – and two others were injured. One of the two officers is seriously injured. The search was part of an investigation into the trafficking of drugs, weapons and vehicles.
At the same time as the house search, three police officers from Charleroi were arrested for, among other things, forgery, abuse of trust, violation of professional secrecy and violations of weapons legislation. One of them is also suspected of gang formation in the first file. Two other people had already been charged with trafficking in narcotics in this case.
Two other people were arrested in recent days. They appeared before the council chamber on Wednesday. The Charleroi public prosecutor’s office confirmed that they remain in pre-trial detention, without providing further details about the charges.
