The shooting took place on the night of July 4 to 5, 2020 in Alfred Orbanstraat in Vorst and claimed the life of a 23-year-old young man: Soufiane ‘Nana’ Benali. Two other young men, aged 17 and 19, were seriously injured. A few days after the facts, two suspects, two in their twenties, were arrested, but one of them was quickly released.

About a week after the shooting, MD and YJ presented themselves to the police and were placed under arrest warrants for murder, attempted murder and verbal threats under orders or conditions. They are said to have fired the fatal shots. The two were referred to the court of assizes for the fatal shooting in 2022 together with third suspect YB

MD had been under electronic surveillance for some time when he cut his ankle monitor and went on the run about a year ago. He was recently arrested in Spain in the company of YJ. According to La Capitale, both were in possession of weapons and were arrested as part of an investigation by the Spanish judiciary.
