The bus driver who was found dead on Thursday morning at the depot in Verlaine, near Liège, is 50-year-old Vincent Amico from Grâce-Hollogne. “We don’t understand,” say his friends. “We went to a performance on Wednesday evening, and there were no possible problems.”

Amico’s lifeless body was found on Thursday morning around 6:30 am in a pool of blood in a depot of the Walloon public transport company TEC in Verlaine near Liège. The man appeared to have been killed with no fewer than 16 stab wounds, including four to the carotid artery.

His colleagues tried to resuscitate Amico, but without success. Shortly afterwards, the emergency services were only able to determine that the man had died. The public prosecutor’s office has started an investigation into manslaughter.

Amico was on duty early Thursday morning, but since his duty bag containing cash was found next to his body, theft seems an unlikely motive. It is currently unclear what the motive could be. According to the first elements of the investigation, the murder would not be linked to his role as a bus driver.

“We don’t understand”

His friends are also in the dark. “On Wednesday evening we went with a group of friends to watch a show by the hypnotist Messmer in Charleroi,” says Gianni Scattina to the newspapers of Sudinfo. “Whether he said anything about possible problems? No, he didn’t tell us anything!”

“Vincent was a respectful, kind man, always ready to help others. His friends could count on him,” says Carmelo Zicari. “I knew Vincent for more than thirty years, from our youth,” says colleague and neighbor Carmelo Barberi. “He was a good guy, he always had a smile on his face.”

Amico was a music lover, and played in two different groups. “You lifted our spirits with your determination, your eternal good humor, and your infinite kindness,” the Pooh Lovers wrote on Facebook. “We will miss you very much, and carry out our project as you wanted.”

His friends therefore hope for a quick breakthrough in the research. “I don’t understand it, I hope the perpetrator or perpetrators are discovered quickly and that justice is done,” Zicari said.
