Are you single and looking for a female partner? Then it’s high time to let your facial hair grow. A new study shows that men with beards are seen as more attractive.

For some, a man without a beard is not an option, for others it is not necessarily a requirement. Yet there is a good chance that the second group is also more likely to fall for a man with facial hair. A study by dating.com shows that no fewer than 86% of women prefer a man with a beard over a man without.

According to the participants in the study, men with beards are perceived as more masculine and mature. Men who have a beard in at least one photo on their dating profile receive as many as three times more matches. A 2020 University of Queensland study also linked facial hair to how fertile we judge someone to be, although that link is only psychological, according to the same study.

However, how you maintain your beard also matters. For 77% of the male participants in the dating.com study, a poorly trimmed beard or mustache was an absolute no-no, while women favored a stubble. The mustache was less popular. Research from the University of Queensland also shows that women with a great aversion to fleas and lice are less likely to fall for a man with a beard.
