Ann Van den Broeck has a very good reason to participate in ‘All in the fight’. Not so long ago, she herself was struck by breast cancer.
She has now been declared cured, but is still undergoing hormone treatment. Every day she notices that the cancer has had a serious impact on her body. This means she gets tired much faster than before and she always has to dose her energy.
In ‘Everything in the Struggle’ you can see how Ann and the other women have a conversation with breast cancer specialist Wiebren Tjalma. He confronts her with the hard truth.
“After treatment you don’t get back to the point where you were,” he says. “You have to adjust your lifestyle a bit because you can’t do everything. You go back a bit.”
He tries to soothe Ann with the thought that a happy and healthy life is still perfectly possible, but his message visibly affects her. “That was confronting news, but I think it is important that you continue to have the courage to continue working on your body,” she responds.
She wants to give something important to all her fellow sufferers. “Don’t give up immediately, and don’t immediately resign yourself to the fact that it won’t go further than this,” it sounds.
