Marvel has announced a new free-to-play team-based multiplayer shooter: Marvel Rivals. This is a PC game that can be played in 6v6 mode and receives seasonal updates. Developer NetEase will start a closed beta in May. It is not yet clear when the game will be released.

From the trailer on YouTube, it appears that the game will feature dozens of playable characters from the Marvel Universe, including Iron Man, Spider-Man, The Hulk, Namor and Black Panther. Forbes has limited it to 19 Marvel characters for the time being. Each character is given unique properties and powers. According to Marvel, it will also be possible to combine the powers of two characters into a combined attack, which should be more powerful. The trailer also shows that the virtual arenas in which players compete against each other will be somewhat destructible.

Marvel writes that the game will receive new updates at periodic intervals. This seasonal updates will then add new maps and new characters to the base game. Marvel Rivals has not yet been given a release date, but developer NetEase will start a closed beta in May. Interested players can register via the Marvel Rivals website.
