VRT CEO Frederik Delaplace said he made that decision because Bart De Pauw wanted to apologize to the victims, but many parties did not understand that decision. VRT decided to broadcast the series from Wednesday, which again caused a lot of fuss. “This was a major error of judgment,” the public broadcaster responded.

On Tuesday, TV maker Bart De Pauw shared a post on Instagram in which he openly apologizes and at the same time wonders “when enough is enough”. “I remained silent for seven years, refused all interviews, I wanted to conduct the trial in court and not in the media. I apologized to the ladies there and because they did not feel sincere, they did not accept them,” he wrote, among other things.

That again provoked quite a response. Proponents and opponents, well-known and unknown Flemish people. They all make their voices heard. Frank Molnar, among others, is looking forward to “the greatest and most impressive comeback ever”.

Journalist Annemie Ramaekers from Maasmechelen “is counting down to the comeback. If not immediately, then in a few weeks or months, please not years. And you will then make top TV again. That is in your DNA.”

The Beringse TV presenter Hanne Troonbeeckx responds with three hearts.

Annemie Ramaekers hopes that De Pauw can and will make his comeback.

Actor Sven De Ridder calls De Pauw’s message “beautifully expressed” and talks about “the road to Easter”. TV figure Frank Molnar says he hopes for “the biggest and greatest comeback ever.”

New chance

“Strong friend!”, writes Geena Lisa Peeters. “I hope for your sake that this is the last mountain that you, Ines, your children and your family have to cross. Let a new time of recovery, revival and creativity dawn. You have undoubtedly learned a lot about yourself in recent years. I hope that television-watching Flanders can embrace you again. X”

On Twitter, Sven Ornelis elaborates further on his expression of support. “Anyone who still has an eye for some nuance can also read this heartfelt message from Bart De Pauw on his Instagram,” he says there. “I will probably be denounced by many of my colleagues. But give this man another chance. Forgive. Accepting an apology can also be healing.” This response was also shared by Flemish Minister of Education Ben Weyts (N-VA).

However, the total number of expressions of support from well-known Flemish people is limited.

Open letter

In an open letter published on Tuesday, more than 600 people from the culture and TV world expressed their dissatisfaction with the decision of VRT CEO Frederik Delaplace to cancel the documentary about De Pauw. They also expressly expressed their support for the victims. The signatories included many well-known names, from Fien Germijns to Siska Schoeters to Gloria Monserez.
