Last night, around 70 medical specialists discussed the themes of the Medical Specialist 2035 vision process, such as job satisfaction and sustainable employability, scarcity, new technologies and knowledge and skills of the future. The central questions were: ‘How do we want to work in 2035?’ and ‘What is within our sphere of influence?’. In two rounds, the participants could discuss 7 themes with each other.

Lively discussions were the result. Sometimes in agreement, sometimes more fiercely, with firm statements such as the group on the theme of job satisfaction and sustainable employability: ‘You don’t want to keep doing the same trick for forty years, do you?’ Or in the group about diversity and inclusion: ‘It is clear that this theme is more than necessary. Just look around at how diverse we are here tonight.’

Opinions were divided on the question of what is and is not within the medical specialist’s sphere of influence, but the conclusion of one of the participants was also: ‘There is little over which we have no influence’. The voice of the young generation of medical specialists and future medical specialists was also emphasized by several participants: ‘How do young medical specialists view the profession? That must be leading.’

Esther Cornegé, clinical geriatrician and chairman of Medical Specialist 2035, closed the evening with a word of thanks to all those present. She emphasized: ‘What a fantastic evening full of energy. Tonight’s valuable insights help us move one step closer to a shared vision.”
