PAPENDRECHT – The Health & Youth Service has drawn up a Multi-year Policy Plan 2024-2028. The CDA faction thinks this is a good plan, but lacked the ambition to increase the vaccination rate.

The World Health Organization WHO sees a vaccination rate of 95 percent as necessary to eliminate diseases such as measles, whooping cough and rubella.

In the Netherlands, the vaccination rate among babies and toddlers has now fallen below 90 percent.

There are major concerns about an increasing number of cases of serious diseases and the misinformation circulating about vaccines. Children are dying from whooping cough, which was rare in previous years.

The CDA faction therefore believes it is important to make the voices of the professionals heard.

During the council meeting of April 23, the CDA faction, together with GroenLinks, CU and VVD, submitted an amendment in which the Papendrecht council indicated that it would like to see the DG&J express the ambition to increase the vaccination rate.”

The amendment was adopted with 18 votes in favor and 4 votes against. Only Independent Papendrecht voted against.
