German government wants to further absorb high energy prices with a third package of measures worth 65 billion euros

The deal signed by the German Socialists, Greens and Liberals calls the new package of measures “rapid and proportionate aid to citizens and businesses”, “needed by the rapid rise in energy prices”. Germany again had inflation (a price increase) of 7.9 percent in August compared to a year earlier.

The new package includes a one-off premium for pensioners (300 euros) and students (200 euros), as well as an increase in, among other things, the housing allowance and child benefit. Some 9,000 “energy-intensive companies” will be granted a tax deferral amounting to 1.7 billion euros.

There will also be a tax reduction for the lowest and middle incomes, which some Germans can earn up to 1,000 euros per year. There will also be a discount on public transport again, although it is not an extension of the 9 euro ticket that was introduced earlier. There will be special tickets with which you can travel around Germany for 49 to 69 euros per month. The government is making 1.5 billion euros available for this.
