Businessman Marc Coucke has sold a penthouse in the Zeeland-Flemish seaside resort of Cadzand for approximately 8 million euros.

A penthouse in the village of Cadzand recently changed hands for approximately 8 million euros. The Provincial Zeeland Courant (PZC) reported this on Sunday. According to the real estate agent involved, it is one of the most expensive second homes ever sold in the Netherlands.

The seller appears to be none other than the Flemish businessman Marc Coucke, De Tijd learned from a good source. The penthouse is located in De Blanke Top, one of the most prestigious projects in Cadzand. The Ostend real estate developer Bart Versluys built that complex about ten years ago on the beach of Cadzand, close to the four-star hotel of the same name. His friend Marc Coucke, who took over half of Versluys’ real estate company ten years ago, immediately bought two penthouses. He sold the other penthouse a few years ago in its shell for 5 to 6 million euros.

In the meantime, the first owners are starting to sell their property. Several apartments are for sale. Coucke’s sold penthouse of 281 square meters has four bedrooms, enormous terraces and a ‘priceless view’. Because the apartment had been for sale for a long time, the unknown buyers probably paid less than the asking price of 8 million euros.

Yet Marilein Harpe of the real estate office Verhage & Lemahieu thinks the sale is unique. “I think it is the most expensive holiday home ever sold in the Netherlands,” she tells PZC. ‘I can’t think of anything where you can’t live permanently and that is more expensive.’ In the Netherlands, mortgage loans are intended for permanent residence. Buyers of a ‘recreation home’ (second home) have to pay for everything themselves, which means prices are lower.
