More than half of Belgians choose a travel destination based on cost | Money

More than half of Belgians (53 percent) indicate that the cost of a holiday is the deciding factor when choosing a destination. Only then do factors such as sun and heat, sights, local nature and proximity to the sea come into play. This is evident from Touring’s annual holiday barometer.

About 78 percent of Belgians want to travel abroad. About 33 percent also want to spend a holiday in their own country. For foreign destinations, France remains the favorite. Spain and the Netherlands complete the top three.

Belgians do go on holiday in a price-conscious manner. The barometer shows that more than half of Belgians let the cost determine their destination. Still, 48 percent say the travel budget is not too much of a concern. It is part of the family budget. About 30 percent indicate that going on holiday is an expensive affair and that they find it difficult to save the amount.

It still appears that, despite inflation, 57 percent of Belgians do not want to spend more on their main holiday this year than in 2023. However, approximately 26 percent think they will spend more on their holiday this year and 17 percent have set themselves the goal of spending more on their holiday this year. save and spend less.

About 36 percent of those surveyed say they will spend a maximum of 1,000 euros on accommodation during their holiday, 26 percent spend between 1,000 and 2,000 euros and 26 percent do not mind paying 2,000 euros or more.

Finally, it appears that 12 percent of Belgians do not go on holiday and stay at home. They do this for various reasons. For 41 percent of them, the family budget is insufficient to go on holiday every year and just as many Belgians indicate that they have other costs this year.
