Minister Peeters received a number of questions and comments in the Mobility Committee about the elaboration of the basic accessibility decree. Through that decree, the Flemish government wanted to replace supply-driven basic mobility with a demand-driven model with different transport layers, including customized transport. The transition was difficult and was postponed several times, but is now being carried out gradually.

Coalition partner CD&V previously urged “more guarantees and more resources” for customized transport. The party also asked to postpone Flexplus transport. The principle of Flexplus transport is that a vehicle drives from door to door on demand. The introduction on According to CD&V MP Karin Brouwers, January 1 next year is “no longer realistic”. Minister Peeters agrees and says he is happy with the support of CD&V to postpone Flexplus transport, because according to Peeters the postponement had already been decided earlier. The introduction will therefore be postponed to 2027. The intention is therefore that the current DAVs and MAVs can continue to operate for the next two years.

Peeters believes it is important that the Welfare Department maps out who is entitled to which adapted transport. “In this way we ensure that the most vulnerable people have access to a good, tailor-made transport solution,” said the minister. CD&V MP Brouwers is also satisfied.
