Vosselaar

Fons Dehouwer (77) from Vosselaar has his new book War and Love brought on the market. According to the author, the easy-to-read novel is also a historical work about the course of the Second World War in the Kempen.

The book War and love – the new generation tells a moving love story that is overshadowed by a years-long feud.

The novel talks about the Kempen farming families Donkers and Martens who have been feuding for years. During the Second World War, sons Jan Donkers and Dries Martens performed their military service at the front. They become close friends there. When daughter Anne Donkers falls in love with Dries Martens, problems arise. The question is whether the two lovers can resolve the feud between the old farmers. “The zeitgeist of the Belgian countryside and the blossoming friendships and love make this a beautifully written novel that explores the core of human emotions,” says Boekscout, the publisher that has released the new 178-page book.

Seventh book

For Fons Dehouwer, it is already the seventh book he has launched since 1995. “I’ve been writing all my life, mostly poems and aphorisms. I published my first book in 1995 and the next in 2000,” says Fons Dehouwer. “After that I only wrote poems and songs for a long time. I also performed for many years for third-age people with a one-man show as a singer-guitarist. I started writing again since the outbreak of the corona pandemic. My new novel is at the same time a work of history. The book provides a clear picture of the origins of the crisis in the 1930s and the course of the Second World War in the Antwerp Kempen, especially around Turnhout.”

War and love – the new generation can be ordered online via Boekscout at 21.50 euros per copy. (bvdl)
