Mauri Vansevenant was able to hold her own among the classification riders during the first Girori stage. This ultimately gave him seventh place in the daily results and second in the youth classification.

“The final was very difficult. I rode Milan-Turin on the same climb two years ago, and it was already killer. Today it was the same, because everyone is still fresh on the first day. An intense day,” he signs VTM his story.

In this way, Vansevenant continues its strong Walloon classics. “I gained a lot of confidence there. I knew fitness was good. For today’s ride it was important to believe in myself and not explode on the steep parts. I chose my own pace there and am very satisfied with today.”

Rankings
Who gave Vansevenant the best impression of the favorites? “Of course everyone expected Pogacar to fight. But in the final they were no longer so strong in blocking, which made it uncontrolled. They had probably hoped to have one more man than Rafal Majka alone at Pogacar.”

The leader of Soudal Quick-Step himself is not thinking about a ranking for the time being. “That’s very difficult to say. I have not peaked at the last week and mainly want to take it day by day. The condition was already there in the Walloon classics, so it will be very difficult to maintain that until the end of May.”
