This year we will reportedly get a new Assassin’s Creed set in Japan. But Ubisoft has even more plans for the future of the franchise. We already know this about Assassin’s Creed Hexe, for example.
The darkest Assassin’s Creed yet?
It’s been two years since the unveiling of Assassin’s Creed Hexe. It immediately looked like the tone was a little different than usual. There was little action at the reveal: instead, the atmosphere was quite grim.
That also fits well with the supposed setting of the game. It is said to be set in sixteenth-century Germany, when witch hunting was the order of the day. It is also claimed that this affects the main character very directly, so it will not be pleasant at all.
Magical powers
According to a recent report, the main character has magical powers. That makes Elsa, as she is probably called, a natural target of the witch hunt. In images seen by Insider Gaming, she is being hunted by German soldiers.
Her magical powers come in handy here. For example, she could control a cat, which could then distract the soldiers. Elsa may have even more powers, but that is still unclear.
No more open world
Assassin’s Creed Codename Red is currently expected to be an open world game, like many other recent installments. But that is of course not where the roots of Assassin’s Creed lie. Hexe would go back to the roots of the franchise.
Like previous parts, Hexe will probably be a linear experience again. Ubisoft also did this with Mirage and it seems that the previous style is coming back more often.
Jack the Ripper in Germany
Speaking of older Assassin’s Creed titles, Hexe would also hark back to Syndicate, specifically the Jack the Ripper DLC from 2015. In that DLC you could scare your enemies, which sometimes allowed you to get rid of them without killing them.
This is reportedly reflected to a greater or lesser extent in Hexe. If Elsa is indeed in fact a witch, it’s not surprising that enemies might fear her. It’s probably not the same system as in the Jack the Ripper DLC, but there are certainly similarities.
When is the Assassin’s Creed Hexe release?
It will take some time before we know exactly what is true about this. Moreover, a lot can still change, as Hexe would still be early in development. We don’t see the game appearing too soon.
It is currently expected in 2026. The release will be via Assassin’s Creed Infinity, a new platform where future games will be released. Assassin’s Creed Red is the first game that can be played this way.
