An agreement is in the pipeline. Wouter Vrancken will be – barring a complete turnaround – the new trainer of AA Gent. He succeeds Hein Vanhaezebrouck, whose contract will not be extended. The fact that this news is already coming out, while the play-offs are still in full swing, creates a rather uncomfortable situation in Ghent.
“I call that annoying and unfortunate,” Vanhaezebrouck said at his press conference. “We are creating a new effect on a possible potential opponent for something very important (the last European ticket, ed.). That’s all I can say. This was completely unnecessary at this stage of the competition. And unfortunate, because we might be shooting ourselves in the foot. But those are concerns for the current trainer. That will solve it. If you have any questions about what exactly is happening, don’t come to me. You have to go to other people. I don’t know anything. I only read what you write.”
In the meantime, it remains a guess about Vanhaezebrouck’s future. A few months ago he suggested that a pension was a possibility. At the same time, clubs will undoubtedly show interest in ‘HVH’.
