For a long time it was Cian Uijtdebroeks’ weak spot, but under the wings of the ever-scientific Visma-Lease a Bike, the young Belgian is making progress on the time trial bike. So he looks forward with healthy excitement to the next test against the clock. “I’m very curious where I stand,” says Uijtdebroeks, who talks about the adjustments to his bicycle.

“It will of course be an exciting day.”

Cian Uijtdebroeks has to control his jitters for the time trial in the Giro. Working against the clock has never been his strength, but work is being done at Visma-Lease a Bike.

“I’m curious to see where I stand,” the young climber looks forward eagerly. “I was able to test in the Tirreno, but the weather conditions were not good. So that was not an indicator.”

So where are the differences?

“It’s really starting to feel better. We have adjusted the handlebars a bit, I am now much more comfortable and can use my power better. I am less contorted on the bike. We will have to wait and see if that is also the case today.”

It will be a tricky balance not to blow up and to have some left to ride up the climb.

However, we cannot expect any major differences on the chrono yet.

“We will be working on the time trial project for 1 to 2 years,” Uijtdebroeks explains the long-term project. “Then things should go a bit better. I think we are certainly on the right track.”

Today it is especially important not to lose too much time against the competitors in the general and youth classification. Not easy on a tough course.

“It will be very important to pace well. On the long straight you can break yourself. Then there will be another steep climb. It will be a tricky balance not to blow up and to have some left to ride up the climb “, concludes the Belgian.

From 4.15 pm we will know how Uijtdebroeks is doing. Nine minutes later, the pink jersey Tadej Pogacar leaves.
