“We were informed on Monday morning that there was a tense atmosphere at Passage 44,” says a spokesperson for the Brussels Capital-Ixelles police zone. “On site, a patrol discovered a person who was disrupting public order.”
Because that person continued to behave unruly, he was taken away by the police. A report was drawn up. According to the Immigration Office, this was preceded by a skirmish.
Fences
“Dangerous objects were found,” said Paulien Blondeel, spokesperson for the Immigration Office. “The police deemed the situation unsafe for our employees and other users of the passage. Civil protection subsequently installed the fences.”
The passage is normally used by asylum applicants who have an appointment for an interview in connection with their file. “Today they were guided through a different entrance,” says Blondeel.
That will also be the case on Wednesday. A solution is currently being worked on so that asylum applicants can use the passage again from next Monday.
