(ABM FN-Dow Jones) The European Commission has launched an investigation into twenty airlines, including Air France and KLM, for misleading greenwashing practices. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on Thursday, after confirmation from various airlines.
According to Brussels, airlines must communicate more clearly about the extent to which CO2 emissions from flights can be offset by measures taken. There must also be scientific evidence that sustainable fuel is actually clean.
A spokesperson for Air France confirmed to Reuters that the airline had received a letter about this from the European Commission. Air France says it is studying the letter to see whether further measures are necessary.
KLM and Lufthansa also confirmed that they had received the letter.
Brussels itself has not given any names, as the investigation is still in an early phase.
